With just 1 win in 9 attempts and a 7-game losing streak, the Houston Rockets rank at the bottom of the Western Conference. Youth and inexperience simply aren’t a good combination in today’s NBA and this team is likely going to tank the rest of the season. Their defense has been atrocious, they allow 112.1 points per game, only three teams in the entire league are worse than that. They did get Daniel Theis back from injury, he responded well with 18 points in the 1-point loss at Denver. But, even with him back this team remains fairly limited offensively and I’m not giving them much chance against the Warriors tonight.
Golden State Warriors
Jordan Poole has been the talk of the Warriors season so far. With 17.6 points per game, he is the team’s 2nd leading scorer behind Steph Curry, which has been a big boost to the Warriors’ aspirations as they await the return of Klay Thompson. When Thompson gets back, Poole is likely to drop to the bench, but according to reports he is completely fine with that. Chemistry has never been an issue in Golden State, they average over 30 assists per game once again and are among the leaders in taking care of the ball with just 15.5 turnovers per game.
All things considered, there shouldn’t be any question about the outcome of this game. However, the oddsmakers are favoring the Warriors by 13 points and although they’ve blown teams out this season, the young Rockets have shown they are capable of hanging around. They’ve covered the spread 8 times in their last 11 games against Western Conference teams. I’m hoping they do so tonight again, so let’s back Houston to cover here.

The only way the Rockets will stand a chance here is if they go all out on the offensive end, something similar to what they did against the Lakers and Suns when they scored 117 and 111 points. They covered the spread in both of those games, but they did allow a ton of points. That should be their recipe for tonight’s game, if they slow down the pace against the Warriors, they stand no chance in the half-court against this team. Houston averages 105 possessions per game, that’s 2nd only to the LA Lakers in the entire NBA right now. Golden State ranks 7th in this category, so I think it’s safe to say we can expect a high paced game in this one. If the Rockets get hot from the start, I can see them putting up a decent effort against the Warriors. The last 6 of 10 regular season meetings between them went over the total and they averaged a combined 223.8 points between them in those games. Give me the over in this one.
