Getting back LeBron James didn’t solve all the problems for the Lakers, at least not yet. LA led by as many as 14 points in the 2nd quarter against the Boston Celtics on Friday, but the collapsed defensively in the 2nd half and lost the game 130-108 in the end. LeBron had a solid night with 23 points and 6 rebounds, Anthony Davis led the team with 31 points and 3 blocks. LA’s issues are more on the defensive end this season, they are lacking a real defensive presence that will stop the opponents best player. Jayson Tatum torched them for 37 on Friday, so that is definitely one issue that needs sorting moving forward. Against the Pistons the Lakers have struggled a bit recently, they’ve covered the spread just once in their last 6 against them and are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 visits to Detroit.
Detroit Pistons
Detroit has exchanged wins and losses in their last 5 games and is coming off a 105-102 home loss to the Golden State Warriors. You would think that a 3-point home loss to the best team in basketball would be an encouraging sign, that would be the case if the Warriors weren’t playing without half of their team, including Stephen Curry. In the end though, the Pistons will be happy with their performance, especially from Frank Jackson who came off the bench and scored 27 points in that game. It was only the 6th time in their last 20 games they were able to cover the spread. Their home form has also been an issue lately, they’ve won only twice in their last 12 at the Little Caesars Arena.
With James back in the mix the Lakers will go on a run very soon in my opinion. They’ve dropped 4 of their last 5, but looked a lot better in the loss to Boston on Friday.
