Golden State Warriors

Golden State WarriorsStephen Curry simply cannot be stopped right now. Just two nights after a statement win over the Brooklyn Nets, the Warriors took care of business against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Curry had another performance for the ages with 40 points and 9 threes scored. What was most impressive about this game is that the Warriors held the Cavs to just 8 points in the final 12 minutes of play and Curry scored 20 of his 40 points during that stretch erasing a 13-point deficit. This Warriors team is looking like the one in 2015-16 when they won their first NBA championship with the core they currently have. They are assisting on over 70% of their field goals, which is of course top of the NBA right now. The scary part is they still have Klay Thompson and James Wiseman waiting to come back from injuries.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit PistonsThe Pistons have been exchanging wins and losses in their last 6 games. They are coming off a 97-89 win over Indiana on Thursday, Jerami Grant led them with 19 points in what was only their 4th win of the season and just their 2nd in 7 attempts at home. Most importantly for this team, their rookie star Cade Cunningham is slowly adjusting to life in the NBA. He has scored double digit points in three straight games, including a 25-point breakout performance against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. This team has just one objective this season and that is to develop their young guys, winning games here and there during the process is just a bonus. They’ve covered the spread 6 times in their last 19 games and at home they’ve got just 2 wins in their last 11 outings.

This is a match-up of David vs Goliath. Goliath might be weakened a bit with Andre Iguodala not playing and Steph being day-to-day with a minor knock, but I still expect him to dominate. If the Warriors can beat Brooklyn by 18 points away, I see no reason why they can’t do so as well against the Pistons. Give me Golden State to cover.

Warriors -7.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

The Warriors defense has been on point all season, because of that 10 of their last 13 games have gone under the total. Their last 3 of 4 opponents have failed to crack 100 points and they are allowing only 101.6 points per game, while playing at the 3rd fastest pace in the league. Detroit plays only at the 22nd fastest pace and averages just 98.2 points per contest which ranks bottom of the league. At home they are even worse averaging just 97 points and only two teams in the NBA have worse offensive efficiency numbers than they do. I have a feeling they will have a hard time going up against one of the most elite defenses we’ve seen in the last couple of years. 6 of the last 7 Detroit home games against the Warriors have gone under the total. With the Pistons being 2-5 on the O/U at home and Golden State being 1-5 in favor of the under, I have no other choice but to back the under in this one.
