Denver Nuggets

Denver NuggetsFresh off of their 133-96 home win over the LA Lakers, the Denver Nuggets will try to add to their win total tonight vs the Jazz. Denver has won 4 of 5 games, plus in their last 2 they’ve scored 140 and 133 points, granted against sub-par defenses, but that’s still impressive for a team that’s been heavily shorthanded all season long. Nikola Jokic had his 8th triple double of the season, while Bones Hyland and Jeff Green led the scoring with 27 and 26 points apiece. It was their 4th win in 5 games vs Western Conference opponents and against the Jazz they’ve done really well covering in 11 of 15 home games. Will Barton continues to be questionable due to a neck issue, despite playing against the Lakers tonight and scoring 12 points.

Utah Jazz

Utah JazzIn a span of just 2 weeks the Utah Jazz have fallen from being the 3rd best defensive team in the league to 12th and all because of Rudy Gobert’s absence. The big man is scheduled to return to the line-up tonight after missing several games due to health and safety protocols. This team has allowed 120+ points in 3 of their last 4 games and the offense has also fallen off in their last game against Cleveland as they scored just 91 points in a 20-point blowout. Still, with Gobert back in the mix they enter tonight’s game as -4.5 Point favorites and in that role this season they are 27-13 SU. On the road they’ve covered in 11 of 20 games, however overall in their last 15 games they are just 3-12 ATS. Along with Gobert, Rudy Gay could also return to the line-up from quarantine, while Hassan Whiteside remains out.

The Jazz have shown they are able to flip the switch a lot of times this season, but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to do so against an in-form Nuggets side. Jokic is rolling, he has owned Gobert in previous years and with the Frenchman playing only his 1st game since recovering from covid, I think he will get owned once again. Nuggets +4.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

In their last 4 games the Jazz have allowed 111, 125, 125 and 122 points, while the Nuggets have scored 133 and 140 in their last 2. Naturally, you’d think backing the over is a must here, but I’m not so sure. Utah’s defense gets much needed reinforcements back in Gobert, so things will look a lot better on that end for them. Denver tends to slow things down this season quite a lot, they play only the 21st fastest pace in the entire NBA. The under has cashed in 8 of their last 12 games and on the season they are 9-9 on the O/U in home games. Utah has gone 8-11-1 in road games on the O/U, I think it’ll take a couple of games for their offense to get back in sync. The only way the Nuggets win here is if they are able to control the tempo and hold Utah to a reasonable amount of points. With Donovan Mitchell scoring just 17 and Bojan Bogdanovic just 9 points in the loss at Cleveland, I think that’s a reasonable thing to expect in this one. Let’s go under here.
