Nikola Jokic also had a big game scoring 36 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists while shooting 13-for-14 from the field. The fact that Denver is the number 1 seed in the West only amplifies what this man is doing, making a case to win his 3rd MVP award in a row. It might get tough tonight though, the Timberwolves have beaten the Nuggets 4 games in a row and have covered against them in 6 straight games.

However, Rudy Gobert left the last game against his former team Utah with a groin injury, his status is up in the air for tonight’s clash. The injury problems don’t end there though, Anthony Edwards is also questionable with a hip problem, so the Timberwolves could be in serious problems here. The good news is they haven’t played in 3 days, so maybe both of those players have had enough time to recover from their injuries.
Minnesota has been on a quality run lately winning 6 of their last 8 games and going 5-1 SU in their last 6 vs Western Conference opponents. That streak has propelled them all the way into 9th place in the standings, which would guarantee a play-in tournament spot if the season ended today. Wolves fans are still all waiting on Karl-Anthony Towns to return, that is likely to happen after the All-Star break.
Someone has to beat Denver at some point. Minnesota won the 1st meeting by 13 points, they have the rest advantage here, so I think backing them to cover as 8.5 point underdogs isn’t unreasonable at all.
There has to come a point where both teams cool off offensively, they’ve been scoring in bunches lately, so tonight’s meeting could see a bit of a drop-off in production. Denver will be playing on a 2nd night a back-to-back, so it’s reasonable expect for the offense to be a step slow here. In home games they’ve gone 8-14-1 on the O/U this season, that bet has also landed in 4 of their last 5 games overall. The Timberwolves are 11-10 on the O/U in road games, so they aren’t exactly consistently involved in high scoring games. Defensively they rank 13th in the NBA in efficiency allowing 110.9 points per 100 possessions. With Gobert manning the middle, the Nuggets players could find it difficult to score on the inside here.
