The Mavericks are slowly getting out of their recent slump thanks to 2 wins in their last 3 games, over the Warriors at home and on the road in Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Road form is still a worry, but at American Airlines Center they are 9-3 this season so they head into tonight’s game as 3.5 point favorites.
The Suns have already beaten them by 2 points this season, but that game was played in the Valley. Luka Doncic had 35 points in that game, he’s expected to lead the offensive onslaught once again by the Mavs here. This team is 8-2 SU in their last 10 home games, but they are having a hard time covering against teams from the Western Conference. In their last 9 such games they are only 2-7 ATS, so we could be in for another tight finish here.
Phoenix Suns
Phoenix bounced back from a surprising loss against the Houston Rockets with a convincing win over the San Antonio Spurs last night. They’ve won 5 of their last 6 games, and are still the number one ranked team in the Western Conference despite being without their leader Chris Paul for an extended period of time.
There’s still no return date on CP3 as he continues to rehab his heel injury, Cameron Payne has been starting in his place and has been very successful at doing so. A lot is expected out of Deandre Ayton as well, following his 25 point and 10 rebound game at San Antonio last night. Phoenix has a surprisingly dominant head-to-head record vs Dallas winning 13 of the last 17 games. They’ve also won 12 of 15 overall vs Western Conference opponents, so even without CP3 they shouldn’t be discounted that easily in tonight’s game.
It’s always a tricky game to predict when these two teams meet, the previous meeting went down the wire and I expect more of that tonight. I’m more comfortable backing the Suns as road underdogs though, they are 5-4 ATS in 9 road games this season.

It’s almost always a defensive battle when the Suns and Mavs clash, especially at the American Airlines Center where the under has cashed in 5 straight meetings. Dallas ranks 29th in pace of play this season averaging just 96.3 possessions per game, Phoenix is slightly faster in 20th averaging 98.9 per game, so I think we shouldn’t expect any offensive fireworks from either side tonight. Over the las 10 meetings the two teams are averaging a combined 212.2 points per game, that’s almost 10 points less than tonight’s projected total. The first meeting ended 107-105 in favor of the Suns, a similar scoreline is to be expected in tonight’s game as well. I’m taking the under.
