It’s been a season of disappointment for the Pelicans so far and without any major changes in sight it could be yet another lost season for them. There’s yet no timetable set on Zion Williamson’s return, Brandon Ingram is in and out of the line-up due to a hip injury, this team simply doesn’t have enough talent to compete at the highest level. In their last 3 games they managed to score just 100, 99 and 85 points and tonight against Dallas could be another tough game for them. In the last 10 games they’ve beaten them only 3 times and they are also just 3-7 ATS in those 10 games.

We saw Luka magic once again on display as Doncic drained a game winning 3-pointer to sink the Boston Celtics and give Dallas their 6th win in 9 games. The Mavs are really good at home at 4-1, getting a team like the Pelicans at this stage of the season is definitely a good thing as they want to boost their record as much as they can early on. Defense has been a great strength of this team, they are giving up only 106.1 points per game. Covering the spread at home has been an issue, they’ve done so only once in their last 9 games dating back to last season. Against an injury riddled Pelicans team though it should be a different story.
During their 6-game losing streak the Pelicans have been awful defensively, if Ingram is unable to play tonight it could be yet another blowout defeat. Doncic has been amazing lately, he’s coming off a 33-point night against the Celtics, nobody on the Pelicans roster is capable of stopping him. Give me the Mavericks to cover at home.

With Zion and Ingram out the Pelicans are losing about 50 points per game in production from those two and it’s hard to make up that many points for everyone, let alone a team that doesn’t really have any offensive talent. The only reliable scorer on the team is Jonas Valanciunas right now, he’s averaging close to 20 points per game. Dallas is 24th when it comes to paint points allowed, so maybe he can take advantage of that, but other than him I just don’t see anyone on the Pelicans having a big scoring game. They average only 98.6 points per game on the road, which is 8 points below what Dallas is allowing at home. Pelicans are giving up 112 on the road, as much as I like Dallas offensively I just can’t see them scoring enough to push the total over here. Give me the under.
