Led by MVP Nikola Jokic the Nuggets destroyed the Portland Trail Blazers 124-95 last night for their 5th straight victory. It was an impressive showing all-around from the Nuggets, in particular though they continue their stellar play on the defensive end where they’ve now held each of their last 5 opponents to under 100 points. Jokic finished with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists in just 28 minutes of play. He got a lot of help from the bench play as 4 players scored 10 or more points, it was just too much to handle for the Blazers. The Nuggets are now rolling, they’ve covered the spread 4 times in their last 5 games.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks are also on a solid run lately, they’ve won 4 of their last five games and come into this one as favorites due to their 5-1 home record this season. They have an MVP candidate on their team as well, Luka Doncic is leading the team in all three main categories this season – scoring, rebounding and assists per game. Luka’s averages read 25.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game and the Mavs are 8-4 after 12 games. If it wasn’t for Curry and Durant having historic seasons, Luka would be right there in the conversation. The Mavs aren’t beloved among bettors though, they’ve covered the spread just 4 times in their last 14 games.
It’s hard to look past the Nuggets right now, they are the NBA’s best defense by far and are holding everyone that comes their way under 100 points. As much as I like Dallas their wins mostly come against teams with records under the .500 mark. As soon as someone good comes along they lose (Chicago).
