Detroit Pistons

Detroit PistonsBeating the Houston Rockets isn’t something to brag about these days in the NBA, but the Detroit Pistons will take whatever they can get. With a 112-104 win on Wednesday they put an end to a 4-game losing streak and are no longer the worst team in the NBA, at least for now. Jerami Grant finally had a decent game on the road as he led the team in scoring with 35 points. Rookie sensation Cade Cunningham also performed well with 20 points and 4-for-8 shooting from three-point land. Their problems persist though despite the win, they are still shooting under 40% on the season as a team and are in the bottom 6 of the league in every major statistical category on offense. They’ll face a tough challenge tonight, Cleveland has beaten them 4 times in the last 5 meetings.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland CavaliersThe Cavs have been one of the most positive stories of the season so far after a 7-5 start. But, that has now been overshadowed by the injury to Collin Sexton who tore his meniscus and will most likely miss the rest of the year. That is a big blow to the ambitions of the Cavaliers who are very limited offensively and will struggle to replace his points and playmaking. Ricky Rubio is one guy they are counting on to fill the void, he’s scored 37 and 20 points over his last two games. Bettors do love Cleveland this season as they’ve covered the spread in their last 6 games and are 9-3 ATS on the season.

Expecting the Pistons to win two straight on the road is a bit too much in my opinion. They have just 1 win in their last 13 road games and just 2 wins in their last 15 overall. Sure, the Cavs will miss Sexton, but they should have enough to overcome a bottom 3 team in the NBA. Back the Cavs to cover.

Cleveland -5.0 Point Spread available at -110 odds on bet365

Tonight’s total might be one of the lowest ones I’ve seen in years for an NBA game sitting at just 203 points. These two teams have produced some high scoring games in recent memory, just last season in the last 3 meetings they’ve averaged a combined 230 points per game and over the last 10 games that number is at 226.3 per game. Yes, Detroit struggles a bit with scoring, but they are coming off a 112-point effort against the Houston Rockets last time they played. The Cavs have gone over 100-points in 4 of their last five and the over has cashed 3 times in their last 4 games as a favorite. If we look at Cleveland games against teams with losing records then the Over is 9-1-1 in the last 11 such games. I think backing the over is a no-brainer here so let’s go with the points.
