Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn NetsKevin Durant took the night off and the Brooklyn Nets were still able to get the win over the Orlando Magic on Friday. The Nets were down by as many as 19-points in the first half after allowing the Magic to score 41 points in the opening 12 minutes. But then it was up to James Harden to save the day and he did just that. Despite going only 7-for-25 from the field, Harden finished the night with 36 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. His free-throw shooting was on point as he drained 19 of 20 shots from the charity stripe. Patty Mills stepped up in the absence of Durant and scored 22 points. James Johnson and LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 17 and 15 off the bench. Durant is expected to be back for tonight’s game as his shoulder injury was just a minor one.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland CavaliersCleveland isn’t as lucky with their injuries as the Nets are. They just announced that their starting guard Collin Sexton will have season ending surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. Jarrett Allen is questionable with an illness, Evan Mobley is still out with an elbow injury and won’t be back for a month or so and Lauri Markkanen is still questionable as he still isn’t out of quarantine. All these injuries have left a toll on the Cavs, they’ve dropped three games in a row to the Celtics, Nets and Warriors and are just 9-8 on the season now. They have covered the spread in 11 of their last 15 games, but with just 2 wins in their last 6 games things are not looking good for them right now. They do have a positive record against the Nets though, they’ve beaten them 12 times in the last 15 home games.

The Nets already beat the Cavs by 10 points once this season, with Durant coming back tonight I expect a similar outcome. Cleveland will struggle to score as their two primary scoring options are out of this one, so it could be a long night for them. Give me the Nets to cover on the road.

Brooklyn Nets -7.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

As far as scoring goes, the trend between these two teams has been going towards the over in the past 10 meetings. The two teams are averaging 230 points between them in those 10 meetings and the total has gone over 6 times. With the new rule changes on how fouls are called we probably won’t see 230 points scored tonight, even the first meeting of the season finished with just 208 points. The Nets have been on fire lately, they’ve scored 115 or more in 3 of their last 5 games and right now they have the 9th highest offensive efficiency in the entire NBA. Cleveland’s defense has been solid, but in their last 3 games they are allowing 103.7 points per game. A healthy Kevin Durant should have a productive night here as the Cavs don’t really have anyone to put on him. KD had a modest 23 points in the first game between them, I think he drops at least 30 tonight and gives the Nets the win. Let’s back the over here.
