Chicago Bulls

Chicago BullsThe Bulls went into the all-star break with a lot of momentum winning 5 games in a row and their shooting guard DeMar DeRozan putting up historic numbers along the way. DeRozan broke the all-time record for consecutive 35+ point games while shooting over 50% from the field with 7 in a row and the pressure is on him to extend the streak tonight against a Hawks team the Bulls already beat twice this season. Heading into this game Chicago will be encouraged by the news of Zach LaVine’s knee being okay and he won’t require any procedure, instead he will be just fine. He and DeRozan are arguably the best duo in the NBA right now and if both are healthy come playoff time the Bulls could be headed towards a deep run this postseason. This team has covered the spread 8 times in their last 10 games and they are 7-1 SU in their last 8 vs Southeast Division opponents.

Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta HawksAtlanta also managed to win 2 games in a row before the all-star break which has kept them 10th in the Eastern Conference as they cling on to the final play-in tournament spot ahead of Washington. They’ve done well against the spread vs Eastern Conference teams covering in 7 of the last 10, but they seem to struggle on the road going only 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games. Against Chicago they’ve won just 5 of their last 16 games and after losing both meetings earlier this season they’ll have some demons to exercise in tonight’s game. Trae Young scored only 13 points in the all-star game over the weekend, that’s much lower than his 28.4 points per game average for the month of February so far. If the Hawks want to come close to upsetting the Bulls here, Young will have to put up at least 30 points and dish out 10 assists. The Hawks will once again be without John Collins here, he is out indefinitely with a foot injury.

It’s hard not to go with the Bulls here, they are 4-point favorites for a reason. At home they’ve won 23 of 31 games this season while covering the spread 21 times. Atlanta is just 10-18 ATS in their road games, I just can’t see them getting anything out of tonight’s game. Back the home team to cover here.

Chicago Bulls vs Atlanta Hawks Predictions & Odds

Both games this season have been high scoring as they finished 130-118 and 131-117, so it’s no wonder that tonight’s projected total has been set at 235 points here. I’m leaning towards a lower point total here for several reasons. First one is rust coming out of the all-star game. Both teams had 7 days off after their last game and both teams had players competing in the all-star weekend festivities which means they didn’t have as much time to recover. One more reason to back the under here is the fact that in the last 20 meetings at the State Farm Arena the total has gone under in 14 of them.

Even though the lats 3 meetings have been high scoring, the average amount of points scored in them has been 233.6 per game which would put us under the total in tonight’s game. If we look at pace numbers Chicago ranks only 15th averaging 100.6 possessions per game while the Hawks are even slower at 99.9 per game ranking them 20th in the NBA. Take all that into account and I think we see a lower scoring affair tonight, so let’s back the under here.
