After a couple of disappointing performances and losses against Detroit and Milwaukee, the Charlotte Hornets responded well with 2 wins over Cleveland and San Antonio. More importantly, this team is scoring at a high level once again after struggling for the majority of February.
In their last 3 of 4 games they’ve put up 123, 119 and 126 points which is encouraging considering they were top of the league in scoring for the first couple of months of the season and then they fell down a couple of spots. Not having Gordon Hayward around played a huge part in all that, he continues to recover from his ankle injury and there’s no timetable set for his return.
Heading into tonight’s game Charlotte has just 2 wins in their last 10 home games and against East coast teams they are just 3-8 SU in their last 11.
Brooklyn Nets
Time is running out for the star studded Nets as they find themselves just in 9th place in the Eastern Conference standings, half a game ahead of the Atlanta Hawks in 10th. With a win tonight though they could leapfrog the Hornets who have an identical record with them.
This team looks destined to make the play-in tournament, it hasn’t been smooth sailing since the all-star break and they’ve now lost 4 in a row. Boston beat them on Sunday 126-120 despite them having both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving at their disposal.
There was no answer for Jayson Tatum who torched them for 54 points. Luckily for them the Hornets don’t have a player capable of dominating like that, so that should make life easier in tonight’s game. The Nets enter tonight’s game as 3.5-point favourites, they’ve covered the spread in 13 of their last 20 games vs Charlotte.
It’s time for the Nets to get on some kind of a win streak, otherwise they could risk even making the play-in tournament. Having Durant and Irving here should be enough to take care of a Charlotte team that has beaten them already once this season. Go with the road team.
