The Hornets hung in there well on Saturday, they even led at half-time by 4 points, but a major collapse in the 3rd quarter decided the game in Boston’s favor. LaMelo Ball was the high point man with 31 and 9 assists, while Terry Rozier added 21 points. The losing streak is now at 4 games in a row for Charlotte, they remain dead last in the Eastern Conference with just 11 wins in 44 games.
Their home record is also a worry at just 5-15 SU they have one of the worst marks in the league. They’ve lost both meetings with the Celtics this season by double digits, and things aren’t looking promising as we approach tonight’s’ game either. After missing Saturday’s game, former Celtic Gordon Hayward has been upgraded to questionable, but he still needs to recover from his hamstring injury to play here.
Boston Celtics
Interestingly enough, both of Boston’s wins in head-to-head meetings were without Jaylen Brown in the line-up. He will miss tonight’s game as well, but that’s alright as the Celtics have plenty of depth to cover for his absence. Jayson Tatum dropped 33 points and had 9 rebounds, while Malcolm Brogdon flourished with 30 points off the bench.
Derrick White got injured early in that game, he’s questionable for tonight with a neck issue. Boston is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games vs Charlotte. They’ve beaten them 6 times in the last 7 meetings, so this is an ideal opponent for the Cs to push their 6-game win streak even further. With injuries to Durant and Antetokounmpo, Boston’s lead atop of the East has grown to 4 games now ahead of the Nets and Bucks.
Even without Jaylen Brown I’m still expecting a dominant performance from Boston here. They won by 35 and 16 vs Charlotte this season, so covering as 8-point favorites shouldn’t be a problem. Take the road team with confidence.
Charlotte Hornets vs Boston Celtics Predictions & Odds
The Celtics defense once again proved to be too good for these Hornets as they scored only 106 points on them, only a point better than what they put up in the 1st meeting of the season. Boston has been tightening things up lately, their last 4 of 6 games all ended under the total and on the road for the season they are 6-15-1 on the O/U. If we analyze the last 10 meetings between these teams we can see only 225.4 points per game scored with the total going under on 6 occasions.
I’m expecting a similar number tonight, primarily because of Boston’s record of 109.3 points allowed per 100 possessions this season, that’s 8th best in the NBA. Charlotte likes to push the pace, but playing fast when your efficiency on offense ranks 29th in the NBA won’t get you far. Only the San Antonio Spurs are worse on that end than these Hornets, so I’m not counting on them to produce here. Back the under.
