Sacramento has been performing above expectations towards the end of November and start of December as they’ve won 5 of 7 games and as a result jumped to 10th place in the Western Conference. That would mean a play-in tournament spot if the regular season ended today, but knowing how inconsistent this team is it’s still too early to make any long term conclusions. What we do know though is that De’Aaron Fox has been playing well, he is coming off a 33-point performance against Orlando in a 142-130 win on Wednesday. The win means that the Kings are now 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games, but against the Hornets they haven’t had such luck in recent meetings. They’ve lost 2 of the last 10 meetings and are just 1-5 ATS in the last 6 head-to-head.
Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte is still struggling to make a decent roster out of the players they have at their disposal as 5 players are still in the health and safety protocols. They’ve dealt solidly with that issue, at least when it comes to covering the spread. They’ve gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games with narrow losses to Philadelphia (twice), Milwaukee and a win over the Atlanta Hawks. This team still scores a ton of points even though they are without 3 starters and in their last 5 home games they’ve covered the spread in all 5 games. They’ve also beaten the Kings in 5 of the last 6 when playing at home.
Sacramento is the healthier team by far here, but I’m not convinced they can get the win here. The Hornets play with a lot of heart with all these players out and they were able to pull off a big win against Atlanta the other night. I started off this preview by saying both teams are high scoring and that was for a reason. Charlotte ranks 4th in the NBA in points per game over their last 3 contests averaging 121.3, while the Kings are a couple of spots below them averaging 113.7 per game. Wednesday’s Kings game vs Orlando produced 273 points, while the Hornets last 4 of 5 games went over 250 points, so I think it’s pretty safe to say we can expect a lot of points in tonight’s game as well. In total 6 of the last 10 meetings between the two sides have gone over the total and they are averaging 247 points in the 3 most recent games between them. One stat that jumps out in those 3 games is Sacramento’s field goal percentage, they are scoring at a 55% rate from the field, while the Hornets are at 49%. I think defense isn’t the priority for either of these two sides, so let’s back the over.
