Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota TimberwolvesThe Minnesota Timberwolves are finally growing up. Beating the Miami Heat 113-101 at home last time out might have been the turning point of their season, as in the past the T’Wolves have usually lost those type of games. Anthony Edwards made sure that wasn’t the case this time around. He finished the game with 33 points and 14 rebounds, D’Angelo Russell added 20 and 6 assists, while Malik Beasley was the star off the bench with 29 points. Karl-Anthony Towns had only 11 on the night, but the Wolves didn’t need him to step up as they were able to outrebound Miami and force them to commit more turnovers, which ultimately decided the game. Wolves have now covered in their last 5 games and against the Hornets they’ll have their backs against the wall as they’ve won just 3 times in their last 14 visits to Charlotte.

Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte HornetsThose Hornets are on a bit of a streak of their own with 7 wins in 8 games. They are coming off an away win over the Orlando Magic 106-99 on Wednesday. Three players scored 20+ points as Rozier, Ball and Kelly Oubre Jr. all went off, compensating for Gordon Hayward’s 0-for-6 night from the field and just 1 point scored. At home, the Hornets have been tough to beat with 6 wins in 8 games, but they’ve shown weaknesses on the defensive end, especially in the paint where they rank 27th in rebounding percentage this season. Charlotte has covered the spread in 5 of 6 at home and they are also 3-0 ATS in their last 3 meetings with Minnesota.

I’d normally back Minnesota here, but it looks like they could be without both Patrick Beverly and Josh Okogie as both are listed as questionable. They’ll need all the depth they can get to beat an offensively talented team like the Hornets. Charlotte has played well against them and they have a really good home record so far this season. Give me the Hornets to cover.

Charlotte -2.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

The under has been the general trend with totals for both of these teams this season. Charlotte’s last 7 of 8 games have all been low scoring, while for Minnesota that number is 12 of their last 18 games in which the under has cashed. Facing the Eastern Conference the under has landed in 5 of 6 for Minnesota. They’ve held their last 5 of 6 opponents to under 100 points, which is an encouraging sign. Defense has been the Achilles heel for Charlotte all season long, there have been some improvements though as over their last 3 games they are holding teams to just 105.7 points per game. I have a feeling who ever has the upper hand on that side of the floor will come out on top here. Playing a day after Thanksgiving, some teams could struggle a bit more than usual on offense, let’s hope that’s the case here as well. Give me the under.
