Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn NetsThe moment all Nets fans have been waiting for since mid-January is finally here – Kevin Durant is set to make his long awaited return to the line-up following a knee injury which has caused him to miss the last month and a half of action.

KD left the Nets in 1st place when he went down with the injury and now he is coming back with the team being only 8th in the standings and battling to make it into the play-in tournament. There’s no question what kind of impact his return will have, but against a Miami Heat side that currently leads the season series 2-0 it might not be enough for Brooklyn.

Ben Simmons is still out with a back injury and Kyrie Irving isn’t eligible to play in home games still. The Nets are coming off back-to-back losses to Toronto and in their last game in Canada they showed some fight, but in the end they lost by 1 point.

Miami Heat

Miami HeatThe Heat are also coming into tonight’s game after losing by 1 point to the Milwaukee Bucks last night. Jrue Holiday hit a clutch layup with 1.5 seconds remaining in last night’s game to put the Bucks up for good. Miami wasted a 30-point performance by Tyler Herro off the bench, while star player Jimmy Butler finished with just 6 points on the night on 2-for-14 shooting.

Despite the loss though Miami remains in top spot in the East with a game and a half lead over the Bulls and they come into tonight’s game as 3.5 point favorites. As favorites they are 30-14 SU in 44 games played this season and against the Nets on the road they’ve covered the spread in 10 of the last 15 meetings.

They could once again be shorthanded as Kyle Lowry is questionable for tonight’s game due to personal reasons. They should be fine even without him as in the last 11 games they’ve won 9 of them.

Brooklyn will be better now that Durant is back, but the questions still remain how good he will be after sitting out the remaining month and a half. Miami is a well oiled machine, they were really close to beating the defending champions tonight despite Butler having a poor game offensively. I’m going with the road team here.

Brooklyn Nets vs Miami Heat Predictions & Odds

With a healthy KD back, you’d have to wonder if the Nets problems offensively are going to disappear now. Brooklyn has scored just 108 and 97 points over their last 2 vs Toronto, which is worrying. But adding a 25 point per game scorer should help with that, the last time they played the Heat they were able to score 111 points.

That game ended with 226 points scored, 5 more than tonight’s projected total of 221. Miami has trended a lot more towards the over in road games than home games this season going 22-13 on the O/U. Their last 18 games have produced 12 overs and that bet has cashed in their last 6 vs Atlantic Division opponents.

Brooklyn has also gone over the total in 9 of their last 11 games, plus in their last 9 of 10 vs Eastern Conference opponents. I expect the tempo to go up now that Durant is back, Miami has plenty of weapons to respond so we could be in for another high scoring affair here. I think the smart bet is to go with the over in this one.
