Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers betting tips and predictions for Wednesday’s NBA Playoffs game on TNT. Pressure is on Boston to even their series against the 76ers as the two teams meet up for Game 2 tonight at TD Garden. Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.
In many ways this is the game of the season for the Celtics who haven’t faced this type of pressure yet in the two rounds they’ve played in. Losing the series opener against Philly now means they have to win in order to avoid going down 2-0 before the series shifts to Philadelphia for the next 2 games.
As a team they shot over 58% from the field in Game 1, but the defense just wasn’t there and James Harden torched them for 45 points. That’s been the Achilles heel for the Celtics so far in the playoffs, they look nothing like the team that dominated the defensive end during the regular season. Jaylen Brown also left a lot to be desired after that loss, he attempted only 10 field goals in 42 minutes of play.
The big news coming out of Philadelphia is Joel Embiid finally winning the MVP award, as he was announced the winner on Tuesday ahead of Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He missed the series opener due to knee soreness, and now with Philadelphia already getting the split some people are saying he should skip Game 2 as well for a couple of extra days or rest and recovery.
Pressure is off the Sixers in this game, but that doesn’t mean they will take it lightly. This team is on a 7-game win streak and has won 5 in a row on the road. They’re once again double digit underdogs, which is a bit odd considering they’ve split the last 10 meetings with Boston. They have had their difficulties covering the spread in the last 6 meetings, doing so only once.
I like Boston to even this series, but the Sixers showed a lot of poise in Game 1 grabbing home court advantage. With no pressure on them whatsoever they can play a free flowing offensive game which should result in another close finish hopefully. I’ll take the road team to cover here.
Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers Predictions & Odds
Despite the high scoring series opener in which 234 points were scored, the oddsmakers still believe this will be a low scoring game and thus have set the projected total to just 216.5 points. That’s 3 points up from Game 1, but with the Celtics and Sixers combining to go 51-37-1 on the O/U in home and road games this season I quite like the idea of another high scoring output by both sides.
The 3 most recent meetings have averaged 218.2 points per game, with Embiid most likely not playing here the Sixers should once again push the tempo. In Game 1 both teams shot over 50% from the field and combined to make 27 threes. Until those numbers drop I will continue backing the points. Take the over.
