The first 2 contests between these teams this season weren’t all that interesting as the Celtics dominated both games winning by 17 and 30 points. They enter tonight’s game as 4.5-point favourites and are in decent shape despite their loss against Toronto on Monday in overtime. Neither Jayson Tatum nor Jaylen Brown played in that game, but they are both expected back in the line-up after getting some extra rest.
Robert Williams III won’t be in the line-up though, as he suffered a knee injury which should keep him out for a few weeks at least. That’s a big blow to the Celtic’s defence which has improved significantly over the past couple of months. Still, this team is a force to be reckoned with as they’ve won 6 of 7 games at home and are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 outings.
The Miami Heat haven’t done a good job at all when it comes to covering the spread, having done so in just 1 of their last 8 games which is disappointing as they were one of the most reliable teams against the spread before this poor run.
They’ve won just 1 of their last 4 games and tonight they have 3 players who are questionable for this game – Duncan Robinson, Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent so their depth is taking a bit of a hit here. This team relishes opportunities though, in games in which they’ve been the underdog they are 12-9 SU this season, so I wouldn’t be counting them out just like that.
Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo are both healthy and playing, with a win tonight they can solidify their place atop of the Eastern Conference.
Losing Robert Williams will be massive for the Celtics, I’m interested to see how they cope with that. Bam Adebayo in particular should have a good game tonight as he directly matches up with Williams. If that is the case then the Heat will have a solid chance of pulling off the upset here. Let’s go with the road team and the extra points.
Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat Predictions & Odds
We are yet to have a game this season between these two teams in which both of them went over the 100 point mark, so it’s quite understandable that tonight’s projected total is set to just 214.5 points. It’ll be a battle between the 1st and 5th best defensive efficiencies this season in the NBA, the Celtics allow 103.6 points per 100 possessions while the Heat is at 106 points.
Neither of them likes to push the pace either as the Celtics are 24th with 98.7 possessions per game and Miami is even further down in 29th with 98.1 possessions. The 3 most recent meetings averaged just 212.2 points per game, while the opening game of the series saw a score of 95-78. With the playoffs just around the corner, both teams will want to test out their defences and see where they are at right now, so I think tonight’s game will be decided on that end of the floor. Let’s go with the under.
