Atlanta Hawks vs Philadelphia 76ers betting tips and predictions for Thursday’s NBA game on NBA TV. Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers are aiming to win their 4th road game in a row as they take on the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena. Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.
After becoming the first team this season to beat the Milwaukee Bucks, the Atlanta Hawks dropped the ball at home last night in a 125-119 loss to the Utah Jazz. Trae Young returned to the line-up, but that didn’t help as he went just 10-for-28 from the field, costing his team yet another win.
Dejounte Murray picked up the slack leading the team with 26 points, but until Young sorts out of his shooting woes the Hawks won’t be winning games on a consistent basis. The home form is the only thing keeping this team afloat, they’ve won 16 of their last 20 at State Farm Arena. Stopping Joel Embiid will be a huge problem as Atlanta’s roster isn’t built to withstand such a force on the inside. Over the last 10 games he is averaging 28.3 points per game against them, Clint Capella will have his hands full here.
I expect the majority of the scoring burden to be on Embiid’s back tonight as the 76ers continue to be without their 2nd best player James Harden. Tyrese Maxey is handling the ball on most possessions as the main point guard, that didn’t pan out well against the Suns in their last game as he struggled from the field. Tonight is a good opportunity to bounce back though as he goes against a sub-par defender in Trae Young.
Philadelphia has the extra day of rest here, they are 4-2 ATS/SU in their last 6 games overall, however in the underdog role they’ve won just twice in their last 7 such games. They did win the only game played at Atlanta last season, so that’s one reason to be optimistic here.
Not having Harden on the court actually benefits the Sixers defense, which they’ll need plenty of to overcome the Hawks tonight. The just held the Phoenix Suns to 88 points, I think Embiid can have a strong game here and lift his team to another road victory, back the Sixers.
Atlanta Hawks vs Philadelphia 76ers Predictions & Odds
Philly’s defense has been impressive in their last two games as they held Phoenix and New York to just 88 and 106 points respectively. The gameplan has changed a lot since Harden went down with an injury, as good as he is on offense, his defensive contribution is nowhere near and that has hurt the Sixers early in the season. Atlanta has had its fair share of issues scoring against Philadelphia, the Sixers have held them under 100 points in all 3 meetings last season and with Trae Young shooting under 40% from the field, I don’t see their numbers improving all that much in tonight’s game.
The total has gone under in 7 straight meetings between these two, including 4 of the last 5 played in Atlanta. The Hawks have a habit of going under the total in games vs teams from the Eastern Conference. This has happened in 14 of their last 19 such games. The 76ers and Hawks are averaging just 213.4 points per game over the last 10 head-to-head, so I think the best way to approach tonight’s game is to back the under.
