Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers 1The Sixers are making the most our of a somewhat weaker schedule and are slowly climbing up the standings in the Eastern Conference. Following their latest 111-91 win over the Houston Rockets they are now 5th in the East and trail the Milwaukee Bucks by just 1 game for 4th place and home-court advantage in the 1st round of the Playoffs. Joel Embiid is on a streak not seen by a 76ers player since the glory days of Allen Iverson in the early 2000s. The big man has scored 30+ points in 7 games in a row and he’s shot over 50% from the field in all but 1 of those games. In 2 meetings with Charlotte this season he is averaging 37.5 points per game so I’m expecting big things from him yet again tonight. Philly has beaten Charlotte in 10 straight, including 8 in a row at home. Overall the Sixers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games, they enter tonight’s game as 5.5 point favorites which shouldn’t be too difficult to cover.

Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte HornetsThe Hornets are also on a nice run following 2 wins in a row over the defending champions Milwaukee Bucks. They’ve covered in 7 of their last 9 games and in 8 of 9 vs Eastern Conference teams, but this team tends to struggle on the road where they’ve won just 10 of 24 games so far this season. As far as health goes, they are still without Kelly Oubre Jr. who is out in quarantine, but aside from him there are no notable absentees. Terry Rozier made the most of the 2 meetings with Milwaukee leading them in scoring with 28 and 27 points. With Ben Simmons and Tyrese Maxey both out for the Sixers, he could be in line for yet another solid performance tonight as the Sixers are very thin defensively in the backcourt.

It’s hard to overlook the historic run Embiid has been on in the last several weeks. He has dominated Charlotte in both meetings this season scoring 43 and 32 points. There’s just nobody on the Hornets roster to match-up with the big man, so even though the Sixers still have a few players out in quarantine, I still think they’ll have enough to win this and cover at home.

Philadelphia -5.5 Point Spread is available at -110 odds on bet365

The 2 meetings earlier this season produced an average of 238.5 points, not really surprising when you look at Charlotte’s numbers on offense and defense this season. They play at the fastest pace in the NBA right now averaging 103.2 possessions per game. Only the Utah Jazz average more points than they do, they are putting up 115.2 per game for the season (114.3 per game on the road) and opponents are scoring 115.9 per game against them which ranks 29th in the NBA. On the road they are giving up 118.3 per game, the highest amount of every team in the NBA. Philly averages just 105.4 per game at home this season, but you have to believe they’ll go past that easily in this one. They dropped 127 and 110 against this team on the road, playing at home there’s a good chance they might finish in the 120s here. Over their last 3 games they’ve averaged 115.3 and with the total going over in 7 of 9 vs Charlotte, I think the best bet here is to back the points yet again.
