Coming off a 96-89 loss against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Thunder are now 6-9 on the season. Despite the loss they were able to cover the spread as they were 13 point underdogs before tip-off in that game. They didn’t score as much as they wanted to, but the defense was on point as they held the Bucks to just 37% shooting from the field and 29% from three-point land. Even Giannis struggled as he finished the game with just 21 points. For the Thunder every single player who checked into the game scored, but as a team they shot the ball only 35% on the night. Not at all surprising considering they rank only 29th in the NBA in points per game. If they want to get a win at Boston tonight that stat will have to improve dramatically as they’ve won just twice in their last 8 meetings with Boston.
Boston Celtics
The Celtics are coming off a statement win against their historic rivals the LA Lakers last night. Jayson Tatum finally put together a huge game for them and led the way with 37 points in the 130-108 win. The Celtics were down by as many as 14-points, but they were able to completely overshadow the return of LeBron James with a big second half performance. With the win they are still only just 8-8 on the season and currently rank 9th in the Eastern Conference. At home they’ve split their first 6 games, but the good news is their form is on the rise as they’ve won 6 of their last 9 games overall. Against teams from the Western Conference the Celtics have covered the spread in 4 of the last 5 games.
Both teams played last night, so there’s no advantage when it comes to fatigue here. Boston is still without Jaylen Brown, however the supporting cast did show up against the Lakers last night. Can they do so two nights in a row? Probably. I think the Celtics win this one, but not by a lot. In their last 10 games against the Thunder they are outscoring them by just 2.4 points per game, so I’m confident the Thunder can keep this one in single-digits. OKC to cover.
